Founded in 1832, the Preachers’ Aid Society of New England (PAS) has been serving the needs of our pastors and families for over 190 years.  We now offer a full service support ministry for pastors (both active and retired), surviving spouses and their dependent children.  We do this by providing pastoral care and emergency assistance, educational support, housing opportunities and support of health care.

Position

The Director of Clergy Family Services reports to the Director of Pastoral Care of the Preachers' Aid Society and serves under the direction of the Executive Director and the Director of Pastoral Care Ministries as the staff liaison to the Society's Pastoral Care Committee. The Director shall serve at the pleasure of the Board of Directors. This is a part-time position (22 hours per week).  Work from home traveling across the State of Maine.

Key Responsibilities

1.   Maintain personal contact with persons (retired clergy families, surviving spouses, disabled clergy families and active clergy families with special needs) within their region of the New England Conference through home visits, correspondence, emails, and telephone calls. They will maintain the computer database with up-to-date reporting on contacts.

2.   Evaluate needs and provide appropriate assistance in resolution of needs. Understand and recommend private and public human service resources available and assist persons in obtaining them.  Work with the Director of Pastoral Care and the Executive Director on necessary recommendations for financial grants or other support required.

3.   Coordinate appropriate Preachers' Aid Society activities at district meetings, annual conference, and with local networks.  Serve as the PAS liaison at regional gatherings within your designated region.

4.    Assist in promotion for the Preachers' Aid Society.

5.    Report regularly on activities and recommendations to the Director of Pastoral Care Ministries and the Executive Director as requested.

6.    Attend staff Zoom gatherings, semi-annual in person staff and Board of Director’s meetings.  Demonstrate a considerate, friendly, and constructive attitude toward fellow staff members and adhere to policies adopted by the Board.

 

Qualifications

1. The person should have a working knowledge of the human service resources available to the client base within the bounds of the Conference. A degree or experience in the field of social work is strongly recommended as well as a working knowledge of local parishes and United Methodist polity.  The person shall demonstrate the capacity to learn and to improve their abilities.

2. The person should be self-directed and have a caring, sympathetic and responsive personality. They should have a demonstrated ability to work with older persons and persons with debilitating conditions.  The person can win and hold the cooperation and goodwill of the people they serve as well as their associates.

  3. The person must be willing to travel within New England and to stay overnight when necessary.  Person must have a reliable vehicle with insurance and a good driving history.

  4. Membership in the United Methodist church and active participation in one of its local congregations is highly desirable.  The person shall be sympathetic with the Christian faith and purposes of the United Methodist Church.

  5. Background check required.

 

Compensation

Remuneration will be commensurate with experience, demonstrated competencies, and education.  Salary range between $26-30 per hour; additional benefits include travel expense reimbursement and pension.  Cell phone and other needed technology will be provided.
