Information for those wishing to nominate a recipient

The Lifetime of Discipleship Award will be given at the New England Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church. Nominations should be received in the office of the Preachers’ Aid Society (51 Charles Wesley Ct. Wells, ME 04090) on or before April 6th. The award will be given in recognition of many years of dedicated service by a lay person within the United Methodist Church to the ministries, missions and prophetic callings of United Methodists who are a part of the New England Annual Conference and whose commitments have been carried out mainly in Conference related activities.

Please follow-up with:

A. A statement describing the past and/or present commitments to the ministries of the United Methodist Church in New England in which the nominee has been involved, including some indication of time periods, leadership and effectiveness.

B. Letters of support from persons who also feel that the nominee should receive this recognition.

The recipient of this award will be asked to designate a program/mission within the connectional structure of the New England Annual Conference (including General Church and Conference Advance Specials) to receive a donation of $500.00 in honor of this award. In addition, appropriate recognition will be made at the annual session of the Conference and/or the local congregation of the recipient. The award will be determined by a selection committee chosen by the Society. Recipient of the award will be notified by the Executive Director of the Society in cooperation with those making the nomination. No notification will be given to those not chosen.

Please remember that the intent of this award is to recognize those who have given sustained service in the context of the United Methodist Church in New England, and not for service to other (albeit worthy) causes and organizations. We encourage our local congregations to recognize and honor other commitments as part of their ongoing development of discipleship and stewardship.
